This major international event, held February 18-22, 2005 in the great gulf port of New Orleans with its unique joyful blend of Southern charm and mélange of French and other cultures, brought together more than 10,000 dermatologists from around the world. Dignitaries included Torello M. Lotti of Florence (Secre-tary-General, International Society of Dermatology), Alberto Gian-netti of Rome (President of both the European Academy of Dermatology and the Italian Society of Dermatology), Jana Hercogova of Prague (President of the Czech Academy of Dermatology and Ve-nereology and Chief Editor, Cesko-Slovenská Dermatologie), Giuseppe Micali of Catania (50th Annual Howard Fox MD Memorial Lecturer), Aurora Tedeschi of Catania, Rui Fernandez of Mumbai (President of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereolo-gists and Leprologists), Hong Duo-Chen of Shenyang, China (President of both the Chinese Society of Dermatology and the IX International Congress of Dermatology), and representatives of the Commonwealth of Poland: Wiesław Gliński (Warszawa, President of the Polish Society of Dermatology), Waldemar Placek (Bydgoszcz), Wojciech Silny (Poznań), Maria Błaszczyk (Warszawa), Hanna Wolska (Warszawa), Andrzej Kaszuba (Łódź), Magdalena Czarnecka-Operacz (Poznań) and Jacek C. Szepietowski (Wrocław). Other luminaries included Georg Stingl of Vienna, Ramón Ruiz--Maldonado of Mexico City (President, International Society of
Dermatology), Martin Black of London, Robert Baran of Cannes, Nestor P. Sánchez of San Juan and Ricardo Galimberti of Buenos Aires (President, World Congress of Dermatology 2007).
The scientific program was extraordinary and unparalleled, supplemented by special features such as the sumptuous Dermatologic Surgery editorial board appreciation dinner hosted by Wil-liam P. Coleman III and Stuart SalascheinArnaud's French Quarter Creole cuisine restaurant, the opulent Cutis editorial board appreciation dinner hosted byVincentA. DeLeoandSharon Finch atthe Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Canal Street, and a scrumptious working lunch at Mulate's Cajun Restaurant with Stuart Taylor, Torello M. Lotti, Jana Hercogova and Camila K. Janniger! As New Orleans begins its traumatic recovery from Hurricane Katrina, one thinks of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and Riverside Hilton overlooking the crescent-shaped bend in the great Mississippi River, the magnificent French Quarter, and the stately Garden Dis-trict (fig. 1, 2). We share fond memories of dinning together with Giuseppe Micali and Aurora Tedeschi in the renowned graceful Commander's Palace Restaurant in the Garden District and so much more.
